Sports doctor specializing
in skiing in the Laurentides
Located in the heart of the Laurentides — Quebec's alpine skiing capital — Dr Sébastien Labrecque-Sauvé knows ski injuries better than most. From falls on the slopes of Mont-Tremblant to Saint-Sauveur, he treats skiing-related trauma throughout the season.
Typical injuries seen
in skiers
Alpine skiing subjects joints to significant twisting and impact forces. Here are the injuries we treat most frequently.
ACL sprain (anterior cruciate ligament)
The quintessential ski injury. The mechanism of falling with rotational force on a fixed knee often causes partial or total ACL rupture. Rapid diagnosis via ultrasound and MRI, followed by a personalized treatment plan.
Ankle sprain
Despite rigid boots, ski falls can cause ankle sprains, especially in backcountry skiing. Severe sprains may require immobilization and imaging to rule out a fracture.
Low back pain and back injuries
The skiing position, vibrations and repeated falls create significant strain on the lumbar spine. Muscle spasms, disc herniations and vertebral stress fractures regularly affect skiers.
Skier's thumb (UCL sprain)
A classic fall with a pole in hand — the ulnar collateral ligament of the thumb is sprained and can require immobilization or surgery depending on severity.
Shoulder injuries
High-speed falls frequently cause clavicle fractures, AC separations and shoulder dislocations. In-clinic ultrasound allows rapid same-day diagnosis.
Care tailored to
skiers' needs
Diagnostic and therapeutic services to get you back on the slopes as quickly and safely as possible.
MSK Ultrasound
Real-time imaging of ACL, tendons and ligaments. Same-visit diagnosis without waiting for an MRI — ideal for ski injuries.
Knee viscosupplementation
Hyaluronic acid injections under ultrasound guidance for arthritic knees aggravated by skiing.
PRP injections
Platelet-rich plasma to accelerate ligament and tendon healing — an alternative to conventional treatment for chronic ski-related injuries.
Return-to-slopes plan
Progressive rehabilitation program and functional assessment to resume skiing confidently after injury.

Dr Labrecque-Sauvé and skiing
Based in the Laurentides, Quebec's skiing paradise, Dr Sébastien Labrecque-Sauvé treats skiers throughout the winter season. From beginners to competitive racers, he understands the biomechanics of alpine and cross-country skiing and can make a rapid differential diagnosis for typical slope injuries.
His mastery of MSK ultrasound allows him to assess ligaments, menisci and muscular structures on the spot without imaging delays — a significant advantage for skiers who want to recover quickly. Guided injections (cortisone, PRP, viscosupplementation) complement his therapeutic tools for chronic or acute injuries.
His practice at the Clinique Sport Santé Laurentides puts a physician who lives and works at the heart of Quebec's most active ski region directly at your service.

Skiing and sports medicine
Do I need an MRI or is ultrasound enough after a ski fall?
In-clinic MSK ultrasound rapidly assesses tendons, superficial ligaments and muscular structures. For a suspected ACL rupture, an MRI is generally needed to confirm the diagnosis and plan treatment. Dr Labrecque-Sauvé will direct you to the right imaging based on your clinical presentation at the time of your visit.
Can I continue skiing with a partial ACL tear?
It depends on the grade of the tear and your athletic goals. A partial tear can sometimes allow skiing with a brace and adequate rehabilitation. Dr Labrecque-Sauvé evaluates each case individually to recommend the best option and protect your knee long-term.
What injections can speed recovery from a ski injury?
Depending on the injury: cortisone injections reduce inflammation rapidly; PRP promotes tissue regeneration for ligaments and tendons; viscosupplementation lubricates an arthritic knee. Dr Labrecque-Sauvé performs these injections under ultrasound guidance for maximum precision and accuracy.
